World Book Day

Where can you see Phileas Fogg, Elmer the Elephant and the entire Harry Potter cast, playing with Mr Stink, Matilda and the Mad Hatter?  Once again Boothferry demonstrated how much we love reading by going that extra mile in dressing up for the 18th annual World Book Day.

The day started with a World Book day assembly, in which we had a quiz about identifying first lines.  See if you can identify these book titles from these sentences.

1)      1)  Mr and Mrs Dursley, of number four Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much.

2)     2)  In a hole in the ground there lived a h—-t.

3)      3)  I’d never given much thought to how I would die – though I’d had reason enough in the last few months – but even if I had, I would not have imagined it like this.

4)     4)  Look, I didn’t want to be a half-blood.

5)      5) When I was four months old, my mother died suddenly and my father was left to look after me all by himself.

6)      6)  Butterflies live only short lives. They flower and flutter for just a few glorious weeks, and then they die.

All of the staff joined in the fun too by dressing up planning lessons were designed to celebrate the love of reading.  Mr Sibley even had to take an important phone call from the Local Authority, whilst dressed as George Wesley from Harry Potter.  Everyone agreed it was a great day.

Answers (how did you do?)
1) Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by JK Rowling

2) The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien

3) Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

4) Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

5) Danny Champion of the world by Roald Dahl.

6) The Butterfly Lion by Michael Morpurgo
