High Melton Forest

Yesterday on Thursday 26th May 2016, Year 3 went to a trip to a Forest School in Doncaster.

We were put into four groups and we had to make shelters out of long sticks and we put the sticks on a tree so they hold up. After a while when we finished making our shelters the teacher poured water on everyone’s shelters to see if it was waterproof. My groups shelter was waterproof.

After building the shelter we had to make an animal trap to kill and animal so we could eat it. My group got some string and sticks and leaves. We made a triangle with the sticks and then got some string and tied it around them. We made a hole in the middle and put leaves in. We got some wood and put it around the sticks but left a hole so the animal could get in. When the animal is inside the trap we will close the door quietly while the animal is eating the leaves. When the animal has finished eating the leaves it will jump but will bang its head and will fall back and touch the string making the trap work.

We then had our delicious lunch and came back to the forest. We sat on some wood round the campfire and had popcorn cooked on the fire. After that we had a treasure hunt for pictures and when we found them all we had to put them in order that we needed to survive in the forest.

Then we went back to school and it was a very good and exciting trip.
